The question we’ve all asked ourselves at some point in our lives, the one that has baffled philosophers throughout history. It all started when Lluís Rivera founded the special effects company In Extremis Film, and we began working on all kinds of productions. There came a point when we looked in the mirror and asked ourselves, “Who are we?” We discovered we were destroyers: we made explosions, smashed through walls with our heads, set entire houses on fire… And we’re incredibly good at that, but we were missing something to find balance:
a creator.
A few years ago (more than some would like to admit), a young Sergio González sent his resume from Argentina, unaware that at that very moment In Extremis was looking to create its art department. Thus Córtex was born, a collaboration between Lluís Rivera, a boy who used to put firecrackers in bottles as a child, and Sergio González, a boy who spent all day drawing and creating small sculptures out of modeling clay.
The beginnings weren’t easy; the first thing Sergio had to do when he arrived from Argentina was build the walls of his own workplace, since the department didn’t even exist yet. All he had was an idea, talent, and a strong desire to make it work.
Little by little we started creating increasingly spectacular things; then came the first big project: Port Aventura. It was here that we realized we needed more hands and talent, and without even noticing, the art family began to grow with Hernán, Ezequiel, Jonathan, Guillem… and more who have joined us along the way.
Now, with the experience we’ve gained and our amazing team, when we ask ourselves, “Who are we?”, we know we’re a department capable of tackling any challenge, no matter how difficult, and that we’re capable of creating wonderful things. And most importantly! We want to do it with you.
